Elderly Pedestrian Seriously Injured by Collision with a Minivan

An elderly pedestrian suffered serious injuries recently when she was struck by a vehicle.  The 67-year-old woman was attempting to cross the southbound lanes of U.S. 1 in Virginia during mid-morning traffic.

Fairfax County Police said the woman was hit by a 1990 AstroVan driven by a 63-year-old man. According to eyewitness reports, the woman entered the intersection while the walk signal was not active, and the driver had a green light.  She was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and was in a critical but stable condition at last report.

Due to this unfortunate event, southbound traffic was delayed for two hours in order for authorities to fully investigate the incident.
