Two Fatalities in 18-Wheeler Accident

Two construction workers died recently in Monrovia when an 18-wheeler rolled over onto their pick up truck.  The victims’ names are Hector Henriquez and Jose Diaz, and they were carrying a load of oranges north in an F450 pick up truck.

Police believe the 18-wheeler was traveling at an unsafe speed.  Speeding, however, was not the only problem.  State police said three of the tractor-trailer’s ten brakes were non-functional and the tractor-trailer was not even authorized to operate in Maryland.  Other violations included having no logbook for the driver and a logbook containing falsifications for the co-driver.

The 18-wheeler was registered to Noble Enterprise Transport, LLC of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  The driver and co-driver have been released from medical care, and the driver, Watson Pierre of Sunrise, is charged with two counts of criminally negligent manslaughter and two traffic violations.

When trucking companies or individual truck drivers disregard or get sloppy with industry regulations, dangerous situations can arise or go unnoticed.  The resulting situations can cause accidents with injuries that may have been avoided if the regulations had been properly implemented and followed.

In this case, no amount of jail time for Watson Pierre will bring Hector and Jose back.  For the sake of their families, we hope Noble carried adequate insurance on its vehicle to help the families survive without them.

Companies or individual drivers who disregard safety regulations should be held accountable for the accidents they cause.  Victims may be entitled to recover money for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.  If you or someone you know was injured in an accident involving an 18-wheeler, contact us to discuss your case.  There are time limits to bringing legal action, so act quickly to preserve your rights.
